Lucille’s 11kg Transformation through Menopause, Cancer Diagnosis, & Travel

 
 
 

At 54, Lucille was doing what so many women do after a big life shift – getting by, but not feeling like herself.

Menopause had arrived. Her three children had left home. She was living alone for the first time in years, feeling bloated, exhausted, overwhelmed by changes in her body, and stuck in a pattern of snacking for dinner that left her feeling worse, not better.

“I was menopausal, bloated, not sleeping well, lethargic, overwhelmed by the changes in my body and lacking energy. I just didn’t feel like myself anymore.”

Lucille had always known how to look after herself. She’d previously kept a good balance of food and exercise – but suddenly, everything she knew stopped working.

 

When “What Used to Work” No Longer Does

Like many women in midlife, Lucille noticed that foods that had always served her well no longer felt right. Her energy was down, and despite her best efforts, she couldn’t seem to reset things on her own.

“I felt like foods that had always worked for me weren’t working anymore. I knew the carbs had crept right up, but I didn’t know how to rein them back in.”

In September 2024, Lucille decided to try the 3 Week Body Reset.

Lucille lost 4kg during the 3 Week Body Reset, but what surprised her most wasn’t just the scales.

“My body just seemed to transform before my eyes. I’d read about the ‘protein thing’ before, but once I truly understood it and felt the power of it as a muscle charger, I was hooked.”

She didn’t just lose weight – she felt strong, lean, and energised.

By April, Lucille had lost another 7kg, bringing her total weight loss to 11kg.

But life soon asked even more of her.

 

Supported Through One of Life’s Hardest Seasons

During her weight loss journey, Lucille was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent two surgeries and a round of radiotherapy.

There were periods where she couldn’t train or exercise much at all.

And yet, she kept going – not chasing speed, but choosing consistency.

“Making these food and lifestyle choices supported me through that time. It wasn’t about losing weight quickly – this is how I live now, through the good and the bad.”

Her results didn’t come from perfection. They came from choosing nourishment, education, and flexibility when life was anything but predictable.

 

Food Freedom, Not Restriction

One of the biggest shifts for Lucille was realising that this lifestyle didn’t require restriction.

From the very first week, she was encouraged to include freedom meals, learning how to apply the 80/20 approach in a way that felt calm and sustainable.

“I remember meeting a girlfriend for a drink in week two and ordering a vodka with soda instead of my usual wine. It felt great. I now have such a better appreciation for what 80/20 really means – and you can still get amazing results.”

For the first time, food felt supportive, not stressful.

 

Taking the Lifestyle on the Road – Literally

In April, Lucille and her partner made a bold decision – to take a window of opportunity and travel long-term.

They left Australia and journeyed through Vietnam, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Morocco, Portugal, and Spain, spending months without regular access to a kitchen.

And yet, Lucille didn’t abandon the lifestyle. She adapted it.

“I’ve learned how to find protein wherever I can – eggs for breakfast, yoghurt and chia seeds daily, salads with protein for lunch and dinner.”

She even baked muffins, bread, keto crackers, and granola from Health with Bec’s recipes while based in Portugal – creating familiarity and nourishment in a completely different environment.

She stopped worrying about doing things “perfectly” and instead focused on staying aligned.

 

Proof That This is a Lifestyle That Ebbs and Flows

While travelling, Lucille wasn’t able to stick with her usual heavy weight training, and she made peace with that.

She stayed active in new ways: walking, swimming, kettlebells, paddle boarding, SUP.

After months of travel, she’s gained just 1.3kg.

“In short, once you reach the weight you want to be at, this lifestyle really does ebb and flow with you. It’s liveable. It doesn’t have to be all or nothing.”
